I just got the new Blackberry 8130

To move my contacts from my old phone:

A. Used the old Desktop manager 4.1 and synced all contacts into MS outlook.
B. Removed the out Desktop manager.
C. Installed the new 8130 Desktop manager.
D. Synced the new phone to outlook and sucked in all the new contacts.

p.s. you can also use the online Yahoo contacts there and it works great!.

(This took me 4 hours to figure out...); maybe it can help someone out there...

Dog Eats More than $800 in Cash

You won't see a halo over Pepper Ann's head.

Not that the eight-year-old Lab-German shorthair mix isn't loveable, it's just that see seems to find trouble without even trying.

"She's always been naughty, and when she was little it was 'you're lucky you're so cute, you'd be gone otherwise.' But she's just a cute little dog. She has personality, but she has issues also," owner Debbie Hulleman said.

One of those issues is a tendency to swallow anything that fits in her mouth.

"She's eaten lipstick, so lipstick gets all over the carpet, ball point pens all over the carpet, toothpaste, shampoo," Hulleman recalled. "She's done a lot, Kleenex, she'll eat a whole box of Kleenex if she can get it."

Recently, Pepper Ann topped even those feats. She and her sibling Zach were at Grandma's house, while Debbie and her husband were on vacation. Grandma had a friend over, who left a purse on the ground despite instructions not to leave anything in Pepper Ann's reach.

When the two women woke up, the dog had dug into the purse, and devoured more than $800 cash.

Some pieces were spread around the house — and some were left in the backyard, after Peppy swallowed the money and did her business.

"Pretty soon (I) came to a pile, that had a fifty dollar bill hanging out, part of a fifty, and I said 'gosh, look at that,'" Hulleman laughed. "There were lots of piles with money hanging out there, so I had to save it, rinse it, strain it."

The dog owner taped together the remnants she recovered, and swapped the mangled bills for more than $700 bucks worth of fresh currency at a local bank.

Hulleman is hanging on to half a one hundred dollar bill, in hopes she will recover the other portion. She is less optimistic that Pepper Ann will turn over a new leaf.

"She goes from room to room, looking to get into trouble."

What are our troops eating out in the field?

IWANTED TO KNOW just how much our troops are suffering. Not having nearly enough courage to enlist, or even be embedded as a journalist, I briefly considered taking one of those boot camp workout classes, but it turns out they meet at like 6 in the morning. So I decided to eat Army food.

And not just regular mess-hall food. I wanted to try what soldiers have when they're stuck out in the field: Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), the plastic bags with complete dinners that come with self-contained heating devices, have a shelf life of three years, can withstand temperatures of 120 degrees and are unharmed when dropped out of a helicopter at 100 feet. This is the baddest food in the world.

The MRE menus were developed by Gerald Darsch, the Defense Department's combat feeding director at the Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Mass. For $7.25, he has to create a meal with 1.3 times the recommended daily allowance of nutrition, and get it to survive the same type of massive pressure cooker used for canned products. Eggs and al dente pasta don't do so well, which you know from the fact that you tend not to buy cans of eggs or al dente pasta.

The Department of Defense completely rethought MREs in 1991 because soldiers were calling them "Meals Rejected by Ethiopians." So it developed totally new menus based on soldiers' suggestions. Now Darsch brags that soldiers call his creations "Meals Respected by Europeans." Though not everyone feels that way about the low-fiber creations. At a USO show in Iraq in December, Al Franken said that he had had his fifth MRE on the trip and "none of them had an exit strategy."

I got Darsch to send me all 24 varieties and invited friends over for a party. As you would expect from an MRE party in Hollywood, one of my neighbors, singer Colleen "Vitamin C" Fitzpatrick, had already eaten an MRE when she appeared on a reality show. Luckily, another one, photojournalist David Butow, had them in southern Iraq, which was key because the instructions were kind of confusing.

After opening the brown plastic bag (Darsch is working on a redesign), the IKEA-style directions told us we should put a little bit of water in the heating pouch, place it next to the flexible metal container holding our main course and lean them both against a large, round object that the drawing labeled as a "rock or something." This, for some reason, confounded all of us. None of my friends, it seems, are smart enough to be in the Army.

But after Butow showed us how to do it, we were pretty impressed with the technology. The heating unit emits a lot of hydrogen and doesn't smell great, but creating a whole lot of heat just by adding water is pretty cool. Even more fun was all the stuff in our bags: matches that work when wet, a moist towelette, dessert, salty snacks, powdered beverages, gum, very soft toilet paper and even tiny Tabasco bottles. I could not imagine that the people who packed such a nice bag also run Walter Reed.

Although all the main courses basically looked like airline food — and were too salty and a little metallic tasting — there was a shocking range in quality. Basically, the less meat there was, the better they were. The cheese tortellini was as good as most frozen dinners, as were the chili and macaroni and the chicken with noodles. The Cajun rice and sausage were so good, Jill Soloway — a writer who I imagine often sends things back at restaurants — said she wouldn't send it back at a restaurant. But the chicken breast, which had the most unconvincing grill marks I'd ever seen, tasted like chicken baloney.

Darsch said his field tests showed the same results as my party. Not the part about how people tend to stay long after the host wants them to go, but the food reviews. And Darsch is doing his best to rectify that. By 2009, he's nixing that nasty omelet, along with the chicken breast, the meatloaf and the clam chowder.

Even if our country can't learn from past military disasters, at least we can learn from our culinary ones

The big rumor, however, is that the BlackBerry 8830 will support iTunes. If this one turns out to be true Verizon will sell a BlackBerry 8830 devices hand over fist.

B. Goto the Web Based email and have all email forwarded to GMAIL automatically.

C. Setup a filter to receive all the important email ( from the company and friends etc.)

D. SEE Settings/ Filters / NEW Skip inbox / Forward Filter email to blackberry / Treo etc.

Turn Off that Blackberry Flashing LED for increased battery life...

If you turn off that flashing light on your Blackberry it will HELP
preserve the battery. ( I don't have a scientific measurement of how much but it all helps...)

I hear it also helps on the TREO.

Here are a few more tips I found:

1) Don’t use the backlight. This isn’t always an option, like in the 7100 models, but using the backlight will eat up a fair amount of battery life. Save it for when you really need it.

2) Ease back on wireless stuff. I know it’s cool to surf the web and chat from your Berry. But programs that use the wireless capabilities of the device, like the browser, put additional drain on the battery. Go easy when your battery gets low.

3) Turn off wireless when coverage is poor. Being in a fringe or no coverage area means that your BlackBerry may have to transmit many times before the packets make it through. This will eat up the battery faster than normal.

4) For that matter, turn off wireless completely. Gasp! There, I said it. I know, that’s really no fun at all. But if you’re far from a charger and low on battery, you gotta do what you gotta do.

5) Turn off bluetooth when you aren’t using it.

6) Recharge often. Don’t try to fully discharge the battery packs too frequently. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion batteries than one total discharge. Lithium-ion batteries don’t have a “memory”, so recharging a partially charged battery doesn’t cause any harm.

7) If battery life continues to be a problem, consider buying a spare. For around $30 you buy some peace of mind that you’ll always have power. Because everything on the BlackBerry is written to Flash ROM, your data is safe while you pop out the old battery and replace it.
